Everyone has a favorite Thanksgiving side. Mine is stuffing! It might be the most carb heavy side of all, but it’s so savory and comforting. I can’t imagine our Thanksgiving dinner without this Apple Sausage Stuffing recipe. The apple and golden raisins keep it moist, while the sausage and sage give it extra flavor. Plus, you don’t have to stuff the turkey. Make it ahead of time and bake when you’re ready – because Thanksgiving should be all about keeping it easy.

So many cooks get nervous about cooking for guests. I always recommend that you do a test run before the big day. See if your new recipe is easy enough for Thanksgiving. A warming drawer, stacked foil pots and the microwave are all great ways to keep your food items warm. It’s hard to have everything ready at once, so make-ahead dishes like this sausage apple stuffing are great.
Plan ahead which items you’re going to make and see if you can delegate any tasks. I always try to ask for help when I’m in the kitchen. If I don’t get any help on the front-end, you better believe I’m asking for help with the dishes!

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prep baking dish with non-stick spray. Add onions, celery in a large saute pan cooking over medium heat. Continue to cook until the onions and celery are soft.

Add the sausage. Using a fork to break ups the sausage as it cooks. Once the sausage has cooked season with salt and pepper. Stir in the fresh herbs.

Add in the diced apples, raisins, bread crumbs, and chicken stock.

Transfer the stuffing mixture to the baking dish. Drizzle the melted butter all over the top of the stuffing mixture.
Cover the bowl of stuffing with foil.

Bake the covered baking dish at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and return to the oven for another 20 minutes. (Stuffing will be lightly toasted.) Remove from the oven. Garnish with fresh herbs just before serving.
