I’ve teamed up with the Tuesday’s On the Run ladies this week. We’re discussing “the 1 word that describes your running lately”.

I’m going to cheat a little and throw out 2 words that describe my running right now: unfocused and maintaining.
In two weeks, I’ll be running the Darkside Half Marathon at Walt Disney World. I’ve been “half-ready” since Fall of last year while training for the WDW Marathon and Princess Half. But the Darkside is my last scheduled half for a while. It’s a bittersweet feeling for me.
On one hand, I’m excited to run the shorter race distances. But on the other hand, I feel unfocused without a challenging race ahead of me. I’m choosing to take some time off from the longer distances for a bit (more on that later…stay tuned), but I can’t help to feel a little lost without it.
Which brings me to my next word: maintaining.
My new running goal is to just maintain my cardiovascular endurance. It sounds simple, but it’ll be a challenge and a commitment. I plan to hunker down with my training runs and just keep the endurance strong. Speed won’t matter as much to me as I transition to this. Just logging those miles…
I’m sure that I will learn from this period of time in my running where I cut back on the longer race distances and appreciate it. But right now I am hesitant. I can’t lie…I’m also going to miss the thrill of adding a new medal to my collection.
- Have you reflected on your running lately?
- What is the one word you’d use to describe your running?

I have the hardest time maintaining. If I don't have a half marathon about every other month, I totally drop down to about 6 miles as my long run. Happens every.single.time.
Enjoy the Parkside!

I feel very lost without races on my calendar, especially half marathons. I think it's something many of us struggle with. Summer is the worst because it gets too hot around here. Will you repeat the Disney Marathon in 2017? I'm thinking about it.

I think it's important to make sure you're maintaining when you don't have a big race coming up. Honestly, I struggle with that too, which is why I like to keep some races on the schedule!
